Introduction

Section 2

Key takeaways

The essentials to remember.

  • Earn XP by logging workouts, hitting nutrition goals, and interacting socially.
  • Daily caps prevent point farming and keep the system fair for everyone.
  • A full workout requires five working sets or 20 minutes to earn 10 XP.
  • Most actions must be logged today or yesterday to earn points.
  • Accumulated XP increases your profile level and rank title.
  • Future updates will turn XP into a currency for unlocking rewards.

Section 3

Daily habits and training

You earn XP for building consistent habits. Opening the application grants 10 XP. Hitting your step goal earns 8 XP, submitting a body check-in yields 5 XP, and logging a meal gives 3 XP. Meeting your daily calorie target provides another 5 XP. When you train, a full workout earns 10 XP, while a partial workout earns 5 XP. You also get rewarded for progress, earning 5 XP for a personal best and 1 XP for each lift progression or step-up.

  • Open the app: 10 XP
  • Complete a full workout: 10 XP
  • Hit your step goal: 8 XP
  • Log a meal: 3 XP
  • Meet your calorie target: 5 XP

Section 4

Workout tiers and rules

To earn any workout XP, you must log at least three working sets and train for 10 minutes. Hitting this minimum earns the partial workout reward of 5 XP. To earn the full 10 XP reward, your session must meet one of three criteria. It needs to include five or more working sets, last 20 minutes or longer, or reach a total volume of at least 500 kilogrammes or 15 times your body weight, whichever is higher.

  • Minimum requirement: 3 working sets and 10 minutes for 5 XP
  • Full requirement: 5 or more working sets for 10 XP
  • Duration requirement: 20 or more minutes for 10 XP
  • Volume requirement: 500 kilogrammes or 15 times body weight for 10 XP

Section 5

Social interaction and milestones

Connecting with others accelerates your XP growth. Making a workout post public earns 3 XP, and sharing a workout story grants another 3 XP. Engaging with the community also helps. You earn 1 XP for sending or receiving kudos, 2 XP for post engagements like comments, and 5 XP for a new follower. Referring a friend who starts training grants a massive 50 XP bonus. You also earn large chunks of XP for ongoing dedication, such as completing a programme week for 25 XP or an entire programme for 50 XP.

  • Complete a programme week: 25 XP
  • Finish a full programme: 50 XP
  • Refer a friend who trains: 50 XP
  • Partner workout with a friend: 5 XP
  • New follower: 5 XP

Section 6

Daily caps and backdating

To ensure fairness, Focal applies daily caps to the XP you can earn. Most actions are limited to once per day. Passive daily actions, which include opening the app, working out, steps, check-ins, meals, and calories, are capped at 60 XP daily. Social XP is capped at 30 XP, personal bests at 10 XP, and workout bonuses at 10 XP per day. Furthermore, most XP can only be earned for actions done today or yesterday. The only exception is step-goal XP, which can be backdated to cover the last seven UTC days.

  • Passive daily actions: Maximum 60 XP per day
  • Social actions: Maximum 30 XP per day
  • Personal bests: Maximum 10 XP per day
  • Workout bonuses: Maximum 10 XP per day
  • Backdating: Most actions restricted to today or yesterday

Section 7

The future of XP

Right now, gathering XP tracks your consistency and increases your rank title. However, XP is on the roadmap to become the standard currency within Focal. In the future, you will be able to spend the XP you accumulate to unlock incentives and special rewards. Keep building your total now so you are well prepared when these new features launch.

Section 8

Common questions

Why did my workout only earn 5 XP?
You earn 5 XP for a partial workout if you complete at least three working sets and 10 minutes of training. To get the full 10 XP, your session must include five working sets, last 20 minutes, or meet specific total volume thresholds.
Can I get XP for past workouts if I forgot to log them?
Most XP can only be backdated to yesterday. The only exception is hitting your step goal, which can reward you for the previous seven UTC days.
I set up Apple Health but did not get XP every day. Why?
Connecting Apple Health is a one-time reward of 10 XP. However, importing a workout from Apple Health will grant you 15 XP separately.
Why did my XP stop increasing after I logged multiple personal bests?
There is a daily cap of 10 XP for personal bests. This prevents point farming and ensures the leaderboard remains fair for all users.
What can I do with my XP?
Currently, XP determines your profile level and rank title. In the future, XP will become a spendable app currency used to unlock rewards and incentives.
